Nighten's Blogroll

A blogroll is a list of links the writer likes and wants to share.

This is a rather absurd thing to do in our day and age. We can see them as the precursor of retweet: it was a way to share your friend's content, or to hope that a bigger blog would reciprocate and put you in their blogroll. It also came from the way Google rank page based on how many time it is linked on other pages, and the authority of those said pages.

Google don't work the same anymore. Content get out of date really fast, and is produced in absurd quantity; imagine having a list of all Youtube video you liked, or every Tweets that you shared.

But that's precisely why I want to bring this old Blogroll tradition to my website : To have a curated list of link that will stood the test of time.

Here's an incomplete list of things that profoundly impacted my life, or that I just like a lot.

  Inspired me to create freely and burn this world in the process.
• The Mindscape of Alan Moore
  Made me conscious of the real power of art.

Book:

• Dale Carnegie - How to Win Friends and Influence People
  A fantastic guide for forging more meaningful connection. An absolute must read.

Anime:

• FLCL
  Made me realize how much life has to offer, and how absurd all of this is.

Blog:

• Paul Graham - Keep Your Identity Small
  A short read, but that sparked so much things in my mind. I can't stress enough how formative this essay was when I was still trying to figure out who I am.

Talk:

• Jonathan Blox - Techniques for dealing with lack of motivation, malaise, depression
  There is a lot of Jon's talks that I wanted to link here, but this one have the potential to impact the most people. Watch the Q&A too!
• Bernard Werber - Atelier d'écriture (french)
  Dedramatized writing, but most importantly changed the way I approach my life and other peoples.
• Jake Birkett - How to Survive in Gamedev for Eleven Years Without a Hit
  Showed me that being a super star is not the only way in this industry, or any other industry.

  The reason I do weblog. And also a very good laugh. You can guess which archetype I am!
• Chris Zukowski - There has to be another way to do this
  In the same vibe as Jake Birkett, but from a different point of view; it has really great insight even if I don't vibe with everything fully. Also it has a great amount of link for further reading.
• Jeff Vogel - There Are Too Many Video Games
  A provocative but sincere article that I'm glad exist.
• Jake Parker - You Need a Product not a Project
